Monthly Meetings - 2016 Programme of Events

Picture
Join us for yet another fun and varied programme throughout 2016. If you have a hobby, interest or know of an exciting speaker that you think we may be able to include in next years programme, please email Wendy on president@fulshawwi.org.uk or by using the Contact Us page. We have been working very hard to plan and book our events and speakers for 2016 and our programme is now complete and shown below:

18th Jan 2016  Mindfulness
Janet Bloor will be showing us how mindfulness can help us 'tune into' our minds, thoughts, emotions and feelings. This can help us have greater control over the way we respond to life's challenges and achieve more harmony and contentment. A great way to start the year!

 22nd February 2016  Sweet Temptation
(Please note this is the 4th Monday of the month)

Dee from Sweet Temptation will be demonstrating how to create an elegant shoe from a cupcake after which we will all have the opportunity to try decorating one for ourselves. Jimmy Choo watch out!

21st March 2016  Ark Vets, Mobberley
Dave Walker, a local vet based in Mobberley and Northwich, will be telling us about his life as a vet, the animals he has encountered as well as some amusing anecdotes about his experiences along the way.

18th April 2016  Small Person in a Tall Persons World
Penny Dean, OBE, and
her husband Arthur were both born with dwarfism and together they founded and now run the Dwarf Sports Association, created to show parents that having dwarfism isn't something to be afraid of. Ellie Simmonds, Paralympic swimming star who is now a patron of the DSA, was inspired and encouraged by both Penny and Arthur. We look forward to hearing an upbeat talk about her life.

16th May 2016
Three Cs - Christies, Cancer and Cancer Research UK
The talk this evening, given by Professor Andrew Hughes, will be a positive and uplifting talk about the progress being made into women's health. He will touch on prevention and cure as well as the work being carried out by our most illustrious local hospital, The Christie NHS Foundation Trust.

20th June 2016   Women who Made Manchester
Anne Beswick, Manchester Tour Guide, will be giving us an illustrated talk about the women who made Manchester great, some of whom are famous, others who have fallen into obscurity.

18th July 2016
We have arranged a variety of activities to replace the planned talk by Waitrose who have had to cancel due to ill health.
We will be introducing our Time to Talk campaign about Organ Donation as well as listening to 'My Transplant Story' told by a double lung recipient. There will also be other activities including a cheese and wine tasting.

19th September 2016  Our Very Own DCI Jane Tennison is Solving a Murder!

Our very own DCI Jane Tennison is solving a murder and bringing CSI to Fulshaw!
We have heard throughout the year from inspirational role models such as Penny Dean, Anne Beswick, Professor Hughes, David Walker and our catering hero Dee Waugh.   But what happens when a role model kills in the name of honour?
We will delve into the murky world of honour killings when shame or dishonour upon the family is more powerful than love and protection.  We will explore culture, customs, social behaviour and pose the question, is it all patriarchal?

17th October 2016   It's a Funny Way to Make a Living
Dr Michael Leach, wildlife author and photographer, has worked on all 7 continents to study the world's most charismatic animals. Tonight he will be explaining his work as he gives us a revealing, humorous introduction into the realities of professional wildlife filming. He will share with us how he coaxes animals into the right spot, convincing them that no one is watching and some cunning tricks-of-the-trade that produce amazing photographs. Be prepared to have some illusions shattered!

21st November 2016  AGM

As well as the usual AGM business, we will be having some extra entertainment - our Annual Bake Off Competition is back with a difference. This year, we will be judging sweet and savoury dips, with everyone involved in the judging. We are also asking members to have a table or part of a table to show off their items for sale.
This meeting will be for members only.

Please note this is the second Monday of the month, not the third Monday as usual.
