Monthly Meetings - 2017 Programme of Events

Picture
Join us for yet another fun and varied programme throughout 2017. If you have a hobby, interest or know of an exciting speaker that you think we may be able to include in next years programme, please email Wendy on president@fulshawwi.org.uk or by using the Contact Us page. We have been working very hard to plan and book our events and speakers for 2017 and our programme is now complete and shown below:

16th Jan 2017      Singing For Fun
Denise Vaughan will help blow away those New Year blues by demonstrating how much fun we can get out of singing. We will have the opportunity to 'give it a go' and we look forward to a fun-filled evening. A great way to start the year!

 13th February 2017     Sweet Temptation

Dee from Sweet Temptation will be demonstrating how to create rice paper flowers and afterwards, we will all have the opportunity to try recreating some for ourselves. Please bring a pair of scissors and a small box to take your finished flower home in.

20th March 2017      Women's Work in WW11
Ruth Thomson, will be telling us about the important, and yet often understated, work of women in World War 11.

24th April 2017   Textile Artist
Louise Gardiner is a local artist and designer who produces unique pieces of contemporary embroidery. She will be telling us all about her work which has included exhibiting at The Saatchi Gallery as well as the windows of Liberty's of London. She has also demonstrated to Jenni Murray on Woman's Hour. We are sure she will get our creative juices flowing!

15th May 2017    The Crying Game
The talk this evening, given by Alison Gosling, will be explaining how tears flow through love songs, weddings, births and departures and a broken heart. Is there such a thing as a 'good cry' and do women actually cry more than men? Everyone produces at least half a pint of tears per day. Why? We can't wait to find out more.
We will also be organising a scarf swop this evening so bring along that scarf that wasn't quite right for you and swop it for another one.

19th June 2017      'It's Not What You Say, It's The Way That You Say It'.
Derek Poulson will be taking us on a whistle-stop tour of the British Isles in terms of accents and regional dialects. He will use his acting skills to change his voice and intonation as part of this whimsical talk. If you can't tell your Scouse from your Geordie accents, then all will be revealed.

17th July 2017    Natural Beauty
Wendy Teall, our speaker this evening, has been learning to lead a toxin-free life since a close family member received a cancer diagnosis.  She now produces many different essential as well as luxurious items from scratch and she will be giving us an insight into this. We will have the opportunity to handle several types of ingredients and products and watch her demonstrate how to make a recipe.

18th September 2017     Waitrose
Rob Meston and Andy Cartwright from Waitrose will be giving us a talk about Waitrose, what it offers and in the community. We look forward to a tutored tasting, with samples, of some of their products.
