Monthly Meetings - 2025 Programme of Events

Join us for yet another fun and varied programme throughout 2025. If you have a hobby, interest or know of an exciting speaker that you think we may be able to include in next years programme, please email The President on [email protected] or by using the Contact Us page. We have been working very hard to plan and book our events and speakers for 2025 and part of our programme is shown below:

All meetings will commence at 8.00pm but please do not arrive before 7.30pm to allow your committee time to set up the room. Thank you.

Monday 20th January – John Stirling
Charity Boy - He will be telling us about some amusing, interesting and emotional stories about his travels around branches of the UK Womens Institute, whilst also delivering a talk about his life.

Monday 17th February – Jane Allison
Garden Designer – Making the most of your garden. Jane is the owner of Mayfields, a small, private cottage garden in Middlewich. She is also a garden designer and popular speaker.

Monday 17th March – Gina Kirkham

Gina is the author of Murders at the Winterbottom WI and her talk this evening is entitled 'Handcuffs, Truncheons and Polyester Thongs' based on a series of books she has written based on her experiences as a police officer with the Merseyside Police.

Monday 14th April - Medical Detection Dogs
We look forward to learning about the work of Medical Detection dogs who are super sniffers, using their incredible sense of smell to save lives each and every day. Bio detection dogs use their nose to find illnesses such as cancer, Parkinson's Disease, malaria and now even Covid 19. These wonderful dogs are working to diagnose diseases much earlier through less invasive diagnostics which can lead to better patient outcomes.  A volunteer from the charity will be explaining more about these amazing animals and the difference they can make to people's lives.

Monday 19th May - Michelle Beaver, My Mad Life - Trekking for Charity
We now look forward to welcoming Michelle Beaver telling us about her ' Mad Life – Trekking for Charity' as unfortunately, our planned speaker Professor Zara Hodgson, has had to cancel due to unforeseen circumstances.  Michelle works on the Coronary Care Unit at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital and she will tell us about her many activities fundraising for heart research.

Monday 16th June - Colin Alderson, The Queens Chef
One time Chef to the Royal Household, Colin has plenty of fascinating stories about the ins and outs of a palace kitchen to share which will leave us breathless at the extent of work required to provide the catering for one of the oldest monarchies and where he created lavish and meticulously planned banquets for the late Queen.
We will hear about the Monarch's favourite dishes and about staff parties with Queen Elizabeth.

Monday 21st July -  Helen Selwood, Life as a Fashion Designer
Helen will be talking about her life as a fashion designer in the 1970's and will be bringing clothes for us to look at. She will  also discuss vintage clothing, charity shopping and upcycling and give valuable advice and information in our quest to live a more sustainable lifestyle.

 No Meeting in August

Monday 15th September - Jayne Stubbs, Learning to Fly
Jayne began having flying lessons at the age of 58. Her talk is about her experiences in embarking on such a challenging pastime in relatively later life, both physically and mentally. "No two lessons are the same. Every time I fly I see or experience something new, from doing my first take off, practising what to do if the engine fails, flying steep turns with 2g pressing down on me and making my first really smooth landing"

Monday 20th October - Hilary McCumisky,  Behind the Scenes with the Northern Ballet
A look at the costumes and how it all works behind the scenes.
