21st January 2019 From Toytown to Buckingham Palace
For our first meeting of the year, we look forward to welcoming John Stirling, a highly entertaining speaker who will tell us his story from childhood actor, starring as the main character in the West End production of Noddy in Toytown, through to his current role as fundraiser for the Michael Elliott Trust, a charity working with special needs children as well as rescuing donkeys from all over the world. On the way we’ll hear about his work in TV, writing and producing with such greats as Patricia Heyes, Judi Dench, Michael Williams and June Brown.
25th February 2019 The Art of Chutney Making
Melanie Latham from Holly Cottage Preserves will be giving us a demonstration of the art of making chutneys. After watching her stir up her mouthwatering concoctions, we will then have the opportunity to purchase her produce with 50 pence per jar going directly to the Stroke Association.
18th March 2019 Sally Hyman, Cribs UK
This evening, Sally will talk about this registered charity which provides homes in Greece for pregnant refugee women and for families with new babies. These families have come from camps and squats where living conditions are squalid and dangerous. They have fled from war zones, Isis and the Taliban. Cribbs rents, furnishes and pays the bills for apartments so that women and their families are able to have a place to call their own and a quiet space to recover close to medical facilities.
Also.....Jill Millward, Reach Out And Recover (ROAR)
This charity provides non profit support in the community, offering a safe, secure and stable environment in which vulnerable people can start to tackle their addictions and personal issues. Based in Macclesfield they operate a 9 bed recovery housing project.

20th May 2019 Andre Freitas Understanding AI (Artificial Intelligence)
Andre Freitas is a lecturer at the School of Computer Science at the University of Manchester, specialising in AI. He will explain about the huge change in our society soon to come about due to the rapid rise in artificial intelligence. In layman’s terms he will describe the technical principles at the heart of this revolution and tell us how AI will evolve in the future, discussing the challenges and opportunities it will bring to our everyday lives.
17th June 2019 Maria Glot Saltaire, A World Heritage Site.
Saltaire is a model industrial village near Bradford built by Sir Titus Salt between 1851 and 1876 and is now a World Heritage Site. Maria, who lives in the village itself, will inform and entertain us in character about the history of Saltaire and its inhabitants and in her highly entertaining talk, will bring the past to life.
15th July 2019 Katie Awdas Living with Endemetriosis.
Katie has suffered from endemetriosis since the age of 16 and is now in her early thirties. She will talk to us about her ongoing battle with this debilitating and painful condition while trying to lead as normal a life as possible, a challenge which will resonate with many of our members and their families.
16th September 2019 Michelle Partington, PTSD
Michelle overcame a difficult upbringing and signed up as a teenager progressing to Flight Lieutenant in the Airforce while qualifying as a paramedic.She had postings across the UK and served in the Falklands and Bahrain before completing 3 tours to Afghanistan. Her life was forever changed by her experience in conflict as she was left traumatised by her experience of battle in Afghanistan. In 2015 she was medically discharged from the RAF with PTSD which brought her to the brink of suicide. Michelle will tell us about how she overcame her mental anguish to become a participant in the Invictus Games in Toronto. She is now a campaigner, inspirational speaker and trainer and founder of Behind The Mask Foundation to help those struggling with mental illness.
21st October 2019 Lady Wildflower, History of Burlesque
Lady Wildflower is an international burlesque performer, producer and tutor and has been voted into the Top 20 UK burlesque performers for the last four years. She will tell us about the fascinating history of burlesque which has been around since the 17th Century where it originated in Italian theatre as a type of comic interlude. She will finish her talk with a ‘glove peeling ‘ lesson.

For our first meeting of the year, we look forward to welcoming award winning Shari Royle, an Inspirational & Motivational speaker with a real difference. Shari a former Cheshire Woman of The Year, is ambassador for and involved with, a number of charities including Facing The World and The British Association of Skin Camouflage. At the age of 20, Shari had the whole world at her feet, and was on her way to a successful career in advertising when one August Bank holiday a twist of fate changed her life forever when she was involved in an horrific car crash.
Shari is often referred to as a force of nature, she is warm, infectious and believes there are no boundaries to success that cannot be overcome and that life is full of opportunities. Her talks are always thought provoking and always delivered with emotion and humour!
12th February 2018 Jodrell Bank and Wilmslow Wells for Africa
Following on from the fascinating evening that several of our members enjoyed recently, Dr Althea Wilkinson, has been invited to come and speak to us about her research work at Jodrell Bank which centres around e-MERLIN, an array of 7 radio telescopes connected to a central correlator at JB Observatory.
We also look forward to a talk from Jenny Gibbs from Wilmslow Wells for Africa, a direct action charity that provides wells, pumps, dams and water collection equipment in drought-stricken areas of Africa and a charity which many of you will have baked cakes for or attended their fundraising souperdays.

Kerry Leigh, who writes all her own comedy material and does all her own washing (!), will be entertaining us this evening in her very own unique way. Guaranteed to build an instant rapport with her audience, she is quick-witted and quirky. Prepared to be shocked!
16th April 2018 Hats by Bronwen
Bronwen Simpson makes hats in Stockport Old Town, and as a curator for Stockport Museums, she displays many of them at Hat Works Museum. She has worked with milliners on projects such as Making Headway as well as the recent HATstock festival in Stockport and so we look forward to hearing all about her work and love of hats.
21st May 2018 Blood Bikes
The talk this evening, given by two volunteers from Blood Bikes, who will be explaining about the work of Blood Bikes Manchester, an emergency volunteer service formed in 2012 by a group of guys who wanted to put their passion for motorcycles to good use. They now serve the majority of our region's hospitals and hospices, delivering batches of blood every weekday night and throughout the weekend.
18th June 2018 The Mustard Seed Florist
Kate, from the Mustard Seed Florist in Macclesfield will be demonstrating how to create some wonderful flower arrangements this evening. She will reveal the theme of her evening nearer the time.
16th July 2017 Wilmslow Animal Sanctuary
The Animal Sanctuary, Wilmslow is run by the Humane Education Society and it aims to educate young people and adults in animal care and welfare to create a more compassionate attitude to all animals. They also operate an active re-homing programme for a wide variety of animals and a sanctuary for very elderly or unwell animals. We look forward to welcoming Sarah Diggle who will be telling us more about this worthwhile charity.
17th September 2018 Drugs - Crime and Consequences
PC Jane Commins is a Youth Engagement Office for Cheshire Police who deals with crime and consequences, risk taking behaviour and drug and alcohol awareness. She will give us a very enlightening talk about how the police aim to tackle the rising drug culture.
15th October 2018 Animals Behaving Badly
Dr Michael Leach, wildlife author and photographer, gave us a wonderful description of his life as a wildlife photographer back in 2016 and by popular request, he will be back this month. Tonight he will be explaining that it's not only humans that develop bad habits, animals often learn to cut corners and pick up some truly surprising behaviour along the way. All will be revealed about drunken monkeys, psychotic magpies, phobic ostriches and delinquent coots!

Dave Walker, a local vet based in Mobberley and Northwich, will be telling us about his life as a vet, the animals he has encountered as well as some amusing anecdotes about his experiences along the way.

Penny Dean, OBE, and her husband Arthur were both born with dwarfism and together they founded and now run the Dwarf Sports Association, created to show parents that having dwarfism isn't something to be afraid of. Ellie Simmonds, Paralympic swimming star who is now a patron of the DSA, was inspired and encouraged by both Penny and Arthur. We look forward to hearing an upbeat talk about her life.
16th May 2016 Three Cs - Christies, Cancer and Cancer Research UK
The talk this evening, given by Professor Andrew Hughes, will be a positive and uplifting talk about the progress being made into women's health. He will touch on prevention and cure as well as the work being carried out by our most illustrious local hospital, The Christie NHS Foundation Trust.

Anne Beswick, Manchester Tour Guide, will be giving us an illustrated talk about the women who made Manchester great, some of whom are famous, others who have fallen into obscurity.

We have arranged a variety of activities to replace the planned talk by Waitrose who have had to cancel due to ill health. We will be introducing our Time to Talk campaign about Organ Donation as well as listening to 'My Transplant Story' told by a double lung recipient. There will also be other activities including a cheese and wine tasting.

We will delve into the murky world of honour killings when shame or dishonour upon the family is more powerful than love and protection. We will explore culture, customs, social behaviour and pose the question, is it all patriarchal?
17th October 2016 It's a Funny Way to Make a Living
Dr Michael Leach, wildlife author and photographer, has worked on all 7 continents to study the world's most charismatic animals. Tonight he will be explaining his work as he gives us a revealing, humorous introduction into the realities of professional wildlife filming. He will share with us how he coaxes animals into the right spot, convincing them that no one is watching and some cunning tricks-of-the-trade that produce amazing photographs. Be prepared to have some illusions shattered!

As well as the usual AGM business, we will be having some extra entertainment - our Annual Bake Off Competition is back with a difference. This year, we will be judging sweet and savoury dips, with everyone involved in the judging. We are also asking members to have a table or part of a table to show off their items for sale.

16th February 2015 Hearing Dogs for Deaf People
Learn from Terry Webb how hearing dogs can transform the lives of severe or profoundly deaf people. We will found out how hearing dogs are trained, what they do and hopefully meet a real live example.
16th March 2015 Decorating Cream Eggs
Sweet Sensations will be demonstrating how to decorate cream eggs and then we will all get the opportunity to test our skills.
20th April 2015 Orderly Home and Office
Amanda Manson will be giving us a talk about decluttering, organisation and the positive impact that adopting these disciplines can have on our lives.
18th May 2015 Buxton Mountain Rescue Team
The talk this evening, given by Dr Matthew Stagg, will be a history of mountain rescue which will focus on the Peak District plus details of the team and its current membership. We will also have the opportunity to look at an example of a rucksack and the equipment carried by team members.
15th June 2015 Styal Prison
We are delighted to have one of the Custodial Managers from Styal Prison coming to talk to us this evening. She will give us an insight into daily life at the prison as well explaining some of the initiatives they have introduced such as gardening projects and the new Clink restaurant which is due to open at the end of April 2015. We have been asked to bring donations of unwanted clothes on the night for the ladies of Styal Prison, Please click here for guidelines regarding the type of clothing they are looking for.
20th July 2015 Herb and Spice Workshop
A hands-on opportunity to explore the five tastes, sweet, sour, bitter, salty and umami. The workshop, led by Sarah Pendle will also include a demonstration of how to use unusual flavourings or fresh herbs.
21st September 2015 Our Life with Marionettes
John and Sandra Horsman of the Marionette Theatre Company will be giving an illustrated talk of their work, including a potted history of puppets and their marionette productions to date. They will also show us examples of different types of puppets including rod, shadow and hand puppets.
19th October 2015 Cookery Demo
David Mooney, Co-owner and Chef Patron of the New Moon Pub Co, will be giving us a cookery demo as well as chatting about his 32 years in the catering industry including his time working with Marco Pierre White and Raymond Blanc.
16th November 2015 AGM
As well as the usual AGM business, we will be holding a biscathon and members will be selling their home made goods from various stalls throughout the evening. This meeting will be for members only and there will be no charge for entry. Tickets for the Christmas Party will be on sale at the AGM and will cost just £5.

Bronwen Simpson makes hats in Stockport Old Town, and as a curator for Stockport Museums, she displays many of them at Hat Works Museum. She has worked with milliners on projects such as Making Headway as well as the recent HATstock festival in Stockport and so we look forward to hearing all about her work and love of hats.
21st May 2018 Blood Bikes
The talk this evening, given by two volunteers from Blood Bikes, who will be explaining about the work of Blood Bikes Manchester, an emergency volunteer service formed in 2012 by a group of guys who wanted to put their passion for motorcycles to good use. They now serve the majority of our region's hospitals and hospices, delivering batches of blood every weekday night and throughout the weekend.
18th June 2018 The Mustard Seed Florist
Kate, from the Mustard Seed Florist in Macclesfield will be demonstrating how to create some wonderful flower arrangements this evening. She will reveal the theme of her evening nearer the time.
16th July 2017 Wilmslow Animal Sanctuary
The Animal Sanctuary, Wilmslow is run by the Humane Education Society and it aims to educate young people and adults in animal care and welfare to create a more compassionate attitude to all animals. They also operate an active re-homing programme for a wide variety of animals and a sanctuary for very elderly or unwell animals. We look forward to welcoming Sarah Diggle who will be telling us more about this worthwhile charity.
17th September 2018 Drugs - Crime and Consequences
PC Jane Commins is a Youth Engagement Office for Cheshire Police who deals with crime and consequences, risk taking behaviour and drug and alcohol awareness. She will give us a very enlightening talk about how the police aim to tackle the rising drug culture.
15th October 2018 Animals Behaving Badly
Dr Michael Leach, wildlife author and photographer, gave us a wonderful description of his life as a wildlife photographer back in 2016 and by popular request, he will be back this month. Tonight he will be explaining that it's not only humans that develop bad habits, animals often learn to cut corners and pick up some truly surprising behaviour along the way. All will be revealed about drunken monkeys, psychotic magpies, phobic ostriches and delinquent coots!
19th November 2018 Annual Meeting
As well as the formal business of the meeting, there will be lots of other activities taking place which we hope will include a bake off as well as the ever popular stalls selling goods produced by our own members. Watch this space for further details.

Penny Dean, OBE, and her husband Arthur were both born with dwarfism and together they founded and now run the Dwarf Sports Association, created to show parents that having dwarfism isn't something to be afraid of. Ellie Simmonds, Paralympic swimming star who is now a patron of the DSA, was inspired and encouraged by both Penny and Arthur. We look forward to hearing an upbeat talk about her life.

The talk this evening, given by Professor Andrew Hughes, will be a positive and uplifting talk about the progress being made into women's health. He will touch on prevention and cure as well as the work being carried out by our most illustrious local hospital, The Christie NHS Foundation Trust.

Anne Beswick, Manchester Tour Guide, will be giving us an illustrated talk about the women who made Manchester great, some of whom are famous, others who have fallen into obscurity.

We have arranged a variety of activities to replace the planned talk by Waitrose who have had to cancel due to ill health. We will be introducing our Time to Talk campaign about Organ Donation as well as listening to 'My Transplant Story' told by a double lung recipient. There will also be other activities including a cheese and wine tasting.

We will delve into the murky world of honour killings when shame or dishonour upon the family is more powerful than love and protection. We will explore culture, customs, social behaviour and pose the question, is it all patriarchal?

Dr Michael Leach, wildlife author and photographer, has worked on all 7 continents to study the world's most charismatic animals. Tonight he will be explaining his work as he gives us a revealing, humorous introduction into the realities of professional wildlife filming. He will share with us how he coaxes animals into the right spot, convincing them that no one is watching and some cunning tricks-of-the-trade that produce amazing photographs. Be prepared to have some illusions shattered!

As well as the usual AGM business, we will be having some extra entertainment - our Annual Bake Off Competition is back with a difference. This year, we will be judging sweet and savoury dips, with everyone involved in the judging. We are also asking members to have a table or part of a table to show off their items for sale.

Rachel Flynn will be presenting a 4 point wellness plan which covers exercise, nutrition, posture and lifestyle, all of which will be geared towards living a healthy and pain free life.
16th February 2015 Hearing Dogs for Deaf People
Learn from Terry Webb how hearing dogs can transform the lives of severe or profoundly deaf people. We will found out how hearing dogs are trained, what they do and hopefully meet a real live example.
16th March 2015 Decorating Cream Eggs
Sweet Sensations will be demonstrating how to decorate cream eggs and then we will all get the opportunity to test our skills.

Amanda Manson will be giving us a talk about decluttering, organisation and the positive impact that adopting these disciplines can have on our lives.
18th May 2015 Buxton Mountain Rescue Team
The talk this evening, given by Dr Matthew Stagg, will be a history of mountain rescue which will focus on the Peak District plus details of the team and its current membership. We will also have the opportunity to look at an example of a rucksack and the equipment carried by team members.
15th June 2015 Styal Prison
We are delighted to have one of the Custodial Managers from Styal Prison coming to talk to us this evening. She will give us an insight into daily life at the prison as well explaining some of the initiatives they have introduced such as gardening projects and the new Clink restaurant which is due to open at the end of April 2015. 20th July 2015 Herb and Spice Workshop
A hands-on opportunity to explore the five tastes, sweet, sour, bitter, salty and umami. The workshop, led by Sarah Pendle will also include a demonstration of how to use unusual flavourings or fresh herbs.
21st September 2015 Our Life with Marionettes
John and Sandra Horsman of the Marionette Theatre Company will be giving an illustrated talk of their work, including a potted history of puppets and their marionette productions to date. They will also show us examples of different types of puppets including rod, shadow and hand puppets.
19th October 2015 Cookery Demo
David Mooney, Co-owner and Chef Patron of the New Moon Pub Co, will be giving us a cookery demo as well as chatting about his 32 years in the catering industry including his time working with Marco Pierre White and Raymond Blanc.
16th November 2015 AGM
As well as the usual AGM business, we will be holding a biscathon and members will be selling their home made goods from various stalls throughout the evening. This meeting will be for members only and there will be no charge for entry. Tickets for the Christmas Party will be on sale at the AGM and will cost just £5.
14th December 2015 Xmas Party
Always a popular night - great entertainment, lovely food and fantastic hampers to win. Please note the party will be held at Wilmslow URC and will take place on the second Monday of the month, not the third Monday as usual. This year, the Party will be a pie and pea supper and we will also be holding a Ceilidh. This event, as usual, will be for members only and entrance will be by ticket only. A Secret Santa will also be held.
Members who pay their 2016 Annual Subscription of £37.50 before or at the January Meeting will be entitled to free admission at the meeting. Please place your cheque in an envelope with your name clearly written on the outside.
