WHAT'S ON
In addition to our monthly meetings, we also organise a wide range of activities throughout the year for our members to enjoy. We have a several sub groups as well as general activities. Everyone is welcome to join in with any of these events.
Click here to see all future events we have planned for the remainder of this year and 2022.
These include:
Cycling - not too energetic but still enjoyed by everyone that comes along to cycle and enjoy the countryside around Wilmslow. We meet early evening in the summer and at lunchtime in the winter. Watch the website for further details.
Walking - as well as arranging and leading the regular cycle rides, Jane Rawlings also takes us out on a range of walks throughout the year. These usually start around midday, often involve a visit to a tea shop, with the aim to get back in time for the school run.
Book Club – we started a Book Club in 2014 and since then, we have read a great selection of books. We meet every month in a local pub in Wilmslow. Nothing too serious, but a pleasant evening with discussions about the chosen book with friends.
Theatre and Cinema Visits - we often meet up to watch a film or see a play with a mix of matinee and evening performances. We have been to see several award winning performances at The Lowry and we also support our local theatres when we can. Any suggestions are always welcome!
Exhibitions and Tours – we have visited various exhibitions and places of interest around the local area with recent visits to Jodrell Bank, the mines at Alderley Edge and the Longley Lane Recycling Centre. We have recently also visited several of the Manchester Museums as well as a day trip to Macclesfield to see The Silk Museum and Arighi Bianci. We look forward to visiting the venues we have planned for the future.
Craft Days – we aim to cater for as many skills and abilities when deciding which hobbies to feature on our craft days. We have held days which cover everything from button craft and patchwork through to paperfolding and willow weaving. Allie Pottinger tutors a painting day several times a year, with a different theme chosen for each occasion. Each year at our AM, we hold a 'Bake Off ' which has included a sconathon, a dipathon and a canapé bake off and everyone is involved in the judging.
Ten Pin Bowling - Dee organises a Ten Pin bowling session at Macclesfield Superbowl on a regular basis. This consists of two games, shoe hire, a hot drink and a breakfast barm all for just £7.99.
Orienteering – once we had held our first orienteering event, which was greatly enjoyed by all those who took part, it became an annual event to which we also invite members of our local WIs to join us. The events are based around the streets and footpaths of Wilmslow or neighbouring towns.
Art Appreciation Group - a relatively new, but very popular group, that has been set up by one of our members, Jennie Banfield. The group have visited local galleries in Manchester as well as travelling further afield to London.
New Ideas – we are always adding activities and events to this list and are keen to have new ideas about what our members would like to do. Would you be interested in starting a dining out group or another type of group? Just let us know and we can see what we can do!!
