The Women's Institute plays a unique role in providing women with educational opportunities and the chance to build new skills, to take part in a variety of activities and to campaign on issues that matter to them and their communities. it is now the largest voluntary women's organisation in the UK
It was founded in 1915 and celebrated its centenary in 2015 and many events were organised as part of these celebrations.
There are many good reasons to join the WI which include benefits at local, regional as well as national level.

Becoming a member of the WI and paying an annual subscription of just £44 joins you to the National WI which enables you to:

- Find new interests and learn new skills
- Listen to good speakers and be able to attend a minimum of eleven meetings a year at your local WI
- Become involved in the local community, often through craft or baking donations and make new friends
- Visit places of interest, enjoy rambles and sports - all of which are either free or where we have to make a charge, it will be on a not-for-profit basis
- Be encouraged to contribute ideas for the annual programme of speakers, activities and events
- Support national campaigns and initiatives
- Discuss and vote on national resolutions at the WI AGM
- Enjoy 8 issues of the WI membership magazine WI Life each year
- Have access to the WI’s on-line learning programme, Moodle
- Receive regular information to keep you up-to-date with all the news and events from your federation and the NFWI
- Have the opportunity to attend a wide range of online courses
National Women’s Institute
The National Women’s Institute is the central institute for the whole of the UK and all WIs are part of the National Federation. Many courses are done in the comfort of your own home or local federation. Why not have quick look around to see what's there? Our nearest federation is the Cheshire Federation Women’s Institute. They are the people to contact if you would like information about any other federation within Cheshire. They also organise many different events throughout the year from Castles to Carols!!

North East Cheshire Group
The Cheshire Federation is divided further into smaller groups and we are part of the NECG along with Cale Green, Cheadle & Gatley, Dean Row, Didsbury Village, Great Moor & District, The Heatons, Middlewood & Higher Poynton, Mottram St Andrew, Poynton, Row of Trees and Woodford. This group enables members to take part in joint activities, enjoy speakers which are usually more expensive than individual WIs can afford and also go out on outings further afield. We have two Fulshaw WI representatives, Amanda Stevens and Sheila Parker.
